Fitness Advice/Prescription
In this day and age, with ever-increasing obesity rates a significant health issue in our society, improved fitness and health have become major goals for many people.
Some people may have an injury or may be recovering from an injury and are keen to get fit or return to fitness.
Some people may have been fit previously in their lives and due to circumstances have become overweight and/or unfit and are keen to return to their previous fit state.
Some people may never have been fit or may never have participated in any sports or physical activities and are keen to "start a new fit and healthy life".
Some people may have been told by their doctor that they need to get fit or start exercising for health reasons (for example: high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, general weakness...).
Personal trainers are commonplace and gyms have popped up everywhere, but unless you have exercised previously, it may be wise to be assessed by a physiotherapist in the first instance to ascertain what type of exercise may be most appropriate for you (for example: walking, jogging, exercise bike, bicycle-riding, weights, clinical pilates, stretching...).
Physiotherapists can identify whether you have any pre-existing musculo-skeletal problems that may limit your exercise tolerance or restrict the type of exercise that is safe for you to perform. They can then guide you towards an appropriate form of exercise, whilst also treating your problem, if necessary.
Here at Think Physio, our physiotherapists all have an interest in sports and fitness and can guide you on the correct path to fitness and health. We can either set you up with a graduated fitness programme or refer you to a qualified personal trainer or gym with specific instructions about what is safe and appropriate for you. We have close links with a local gym /personal training facility and we communicate with them regularly about any of our patients who may be using their services.
Please give us a call to discuss any fitness queries you may have.
